"Worn" by Tenth Avenue North

This song has been running through my head pretty consistently for the last five days.

Let me see redemption win.
Let me know the struggle ends,
That You can mend a heart
That’s frail and torn.
I wanna know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn.
Cause I’m worn.

Dinner!

A glass of wine
and a bowl full of spaghetti with meat sauce
will forever be my comfort food.

When all else fails...

Psalm 96:1-3, 7-10

R. Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.
Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all you lands.
Sing to the LORD; bless his name.
R. Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.
Announce his salvation, day after day.
Tell his glory among the nations;
among all peoples, his wondrous deeds.
R. Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.
Give to the LORD, you families of nations,
give to the LORD glory and praise;
give to the LORD the glory due his name!
R. Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.
Worship the LORD in holy attire.
Tremble before him, all the earth;
Say among the nations: The LORD is king.
He governs the peoples with equity.
R. Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.

Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

[the gospel from mass the weekend]
The people were filled with expectation,
and all were asking in their hearts
whether John might be the Christ.
John answered them all, saying,
“I am baptizing you with water,
but one mightier than I is coming.
I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

After all the people had been baptized
and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying,
heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him
in bodily form like a dove.
And a voice came from heaven,
“You are my beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased.”

My Theme Song

I have a new theme song right now.  It's called "Only a Mountain" by Jason Castro.  It's on the WOW 2013 Disc 1 CD, which I've listened to many, many times now.  But this morning, the words touched me so much that I brought the CD into the office and listened to it all day.

For your listening pleasure...

Another day, another fight
It always feels like an uphill climb
Another step, another mile
The story of your life
It’s harder than you ever thought
And it costs you everything you’ve got
When you’re back against the wall
And you feel like giving up
This is only a mountain
You don’t have to find your way around it
Tell it to move, it’ll move
Tell it to fall, it’ll fall
This is only a moment
You don’t have to let your fear control it
Tell it to move, it’ll move
Tell it to fall, it’ll fall
You’ve gotta find a second wind
It’s not as high as you think it is
Don’t give up and don’t you quit
You gotta climb if you wanna win
And I know it looks big
And I know you feel small
But just a little bit of faith can change it all
Change it all
This is only a mountain
You don’t have to find your way around it
Tell it to move, it’ll move
Tell it to fall, it’ll fall
This is only a moment
You don’t have to let your fear control it
Tell it to move, it’ll move
Tell it to fall, it’ll fall
Ask like you believe it
Trust like you can see it
Take your fear and say
There’s nothing in your way, no oh
Even when it looks big
Even when you feel small
Just a little bit of faith can change it all
This is only a mountain
You don’t have to find your way around it
Tell it to move, it’ll move
Tell it to fall, it’ll fall
This is only a moment
You don’t have to let your fear control it
Tell it to move, it’ll move
Tell it to fall, it’ll fall
It’s only a mountain
Just a little bit of faith can change it all

Matthew 2:1-12

[the gospel reading at mass this weekend]
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,
in the days of King Herod,
behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
“Where is the newborn king of the Jews?
We saw his star at its rising
and have come to do him homage.”

When King Herod heard this,
he was greatly troubled,
and all Jerusalem with him.
Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people,
He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea,
for thus it has been written through the prophet:
And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
since from you shall come a ruler,
who is to shepherd my people Israel.”

Then Herod called the magi secretly
and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance.
He sent them to Bethlehem and said,
“Go and search diligently for the child.
When you have found him, bring me word,
that I too may go and do him homage.”

After their audience with the king they set out.
And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them,
until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.
They were overjoyed at seeing the star,
and on entering the house
they saw the child with Mary his mother.
They prostrated themselves and did him homage.
Then they opened their treasures
and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod,
they departed for their country by another way.

*The story of the "astrologers from the east" puts in graphic form the Christian belief that the meaning of Christmas is for the nations; it is not limited to one group of people or one country. It also shows how the presence of Christ causes division: It makes some people (Herod) fearful; it leads others (the astrologers) to rejoice. The tradition that there were three astrologers comes from the fact that there are three gifts.

Quote - Marilyn Monroe

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure.  I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle.  But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."

I want it all!

There are a handful of things in my life that aren't exactly how I want them to be.
Well, this is the year that I focus on them.

Nothing major,
just committing to a few routines
that will have long-term, positive affects on my life...
my health, my budget, my environment, and my peace of mind.

At the same time,
there are a few things in my life that I want to leave behind.
I have a problem letting go of things and forgiving myself.
I'm going to work on that too.

By making a few changes and pushing myself to stick with those changes,
I think I can have it all.

And I want it all!
