Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 21

Okay, I know I got really behind on posting every day.  But the fact is, I was kind of getting sick and tired of dwelling on the Reset every day.  I mean, it was already taking over my life with respect to the menu and the supplements.  I just didn't want to continue to add to that by posting about it every day as well.

So, here it is, Day 21.  Hallelujah!

In a nutshell, I'm happy to say that I survived the Reset.  I also have no problem admitting that I didn't really like it either.  There were several times when I was 'that close' to saying that I regretted the decision to do it in the first place.  And I even cheated on certain aspects.  But once I got more than half way through the 21 days, I was determined to finish it.

But the fact is, I didn't completely stick to it.  I ate an appropriate breakfast probably 90% of the time.  I ate an appropriate lunch probably 90% of the time.  I ate a Reset-approved dinner...maybe 60% of the time.  I drank more than 100 oz of water probably 50% of the time, but drank at least 72 oz the other 50% of the time.  I took my supplements religiously the first two weeks...not so much the last week.  But I'll continue to take them as suggested until they're gone.

Beachbody has a Reset Maintenance Kit to allow me to continue to take the supplements for the next couple/few months.  Yeah, I cancelled that shipment.  No more Reset for me!  I'll go back to taking my multivitamin and iron supplement.

It was suggested that we track our weight and measurements at least weekly and track our mood and sleep daily.  I did all that.  I lost weight nearly every day the first week.  I bounced up and down regularly in the last two weeks.  Today, I weigh 209.4, which is an overall loss of 8.4 lbs.  My mood bounced around too.  I felt pretty good the first week, depressed and weepy the second week, and weepy but more positive the third week.  The Reset did nothing to improve my sleep.  With my trazodone, I sleep GREAT.  Without it, it's a crap-shoot.  But I do think my energy level is up.

During the Reset, I wasn't supposed to work out.  Well about half way through, it really started to get to me that I chose to give up working out for 21 days...and I wasn't looking forward to having to bounce back from that kind of a break.  This past Monday (Day 17), I couldn't stand it anymore.  I brought my running clothes to work with me and even in the 90+ degree weather, I was going to at least get a short walk in.  Well, I felt MUCH better than I expected AND I wanted to know exactly where I was physically with regard to my walking/running.  So, I mostly walked, but also included some running, for 2 1/2 miles.  Tuesday, I ran more and did that same 2 1/2 miles.  Wednesday, I ran the entire first mile.  I felt GREAT!  I took yesterday off, but I have my clothes with me again today.  Looking forward to my lunch walk/run.  Hoping to run that first mile again.  So I'm thankful to say that I don't seem to have lost much of a step in my workouts.  Yea!

Would I do it again?  No way.  Have I picked up some better habits?  Definitely!

Before the Reset, I was a very bad drinker.  I'll bet I had no more than 24 oz of 'something' in an entire day.  I'd venture to say that I've had more water in the last three weeks than I had in the previous six months!  I also picked up some new foods that I'll stick with (stir-fry veggies over quinoa, steel-cut oats with fresh fruit, scrambled egg and spinach on wheat, and a few others).

All in all, it was probably a good thing.  But I really am glad it's over.  And I'm thrilled that I can get back to my workouts!

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 14

FIRST THING
Caught up on my sleep!  Okay, I don't know if a person can ever catch up on sleep.  But I slept more than ten hours last night.  I went to bed just after 7pm and woke up with my alarm at 5am.  And I felt TONS better all day!

HOW I FEEL
No depression today.  And thankfully, the Release Phase is over after today.  So, hopefully I don't have the emotional swings that I've fought with this week.  All in all, I had a good day!

TODAY'S MENU
Breakfast:  watermelon and cantaloupe

Lunch:  picked up a salad at the deli...lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, avocado, and vinaigrette
Dinner:  baked sweet potato chips, baked zucchini chips, and avocado hummus
WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 209.0
That's a 0.6 lb loss, putting me down 8.8 lbs total.  So, after bouncing up and down all week, I notice that my weight is exactly the same as it was last Friday.  At least I didn't lose any ground.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURE

This guy listed is his blood work before/after doing the Ultimate Reset as well.
Cholesterol - before 179 after 137... dropped 42 pts in total cholesterol!
Triglycerides before 267 after 60... I can hardly believe this one... wow!
HDL before 25 after 29.
LDL before 101 after 96.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 13

FIRST THING
I slept just over three hours last night/this morning.  And I'm exhausted because of it.  Not sure why I couldn't get to sleep.  But I already can't wait to go to bed tonight!  Nothing major on the calendar today...just work and the Reset.

HOW I FEEL
My depression was bad today.  I fought tears all morning long.  Things got better in the afternoon, only because I got better at distracting myself from being blue.  My attitude towards meal preparation is better today though.  Could be because I did a quick Shakeology for breakfast and ate leftovers for lunch.  I think I've just hit my quota of new meals that I have to learn to fix just to eat a meal.

TODAY'S MENU

Breakfast:  Tropical Shakeology with frozen strawberries

Lunch:  leftovers from last night...quinoa stir-fry with zucchini, yellow bell peppers, white onion, and grape tomatoes

Dinner:  baked sweet potato, brown rice, roasted veggies including zucchini, yellow squash, broccoli, and asparagus

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 209.6
That's a 0.8 lb loss, putting me down 8.2 lbs total.  Up and down all week!

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 12

FIRST THING
Okay, my rant from my Day 11 post was actually written the morning of Day 12.  And I even entered my Day 12 weight instead of my Day 11 weight.  I have corrected my weight on my Day 11 post.  I actually lost 0.2 lbs.  It was the morning of Day 12 (today!) that I had a gain.

So today, Day 12, I skipped breakfast, which I mentioned in yesterday's post.  And I went to lunch with friends for a Relay for Life meeting.  And I decided HOURS before I went that I was going to enjoy it.  And I did!  I didn't go too haywire...no beverage during my meal, no dessert, nothing deep-fried.  But I can't tell you how much better I felt after that little lunch outing.

One thing that I'm really upset about with this whole Reset is that I feel like I blindly took a break from the progress I was making in my running.  I mean, I ran my very first 5k on June 30th and then completely stopped my training one week later.  Outside of short walks, I've done ZERO exercising in 12 days!  And I'm starting to feel it.  And I hate it.  I have a lot of work to do before my 2nd 5k in September.  I just can't stop smacking my head and saying, "What the heck were you thinking?!"  I'm just so frustrated with myself.

But I'm more than half way through the Reset, so I'd just as soon not stop now.  Sure I totally blew the diet today, but I'm calling it a speed-bump.  Still makes me wonder though, why I feel SO MUCH BETTER after cheating on my diet.  I think it's safe to say my body was definitely missing something!  Then again, it could all be in my head.

Detox supplement - 14 down, 7 to go.  Reset - nearly 12 days down, only 9 to go.  NINE!!!

HOW I FEEL
Frustrated.  Somewhat wiped out.  Still Concerned about my fitness level.  I mean let's be real...I still weigh more than 200 lbs.  Why on earth would I volunteer to do something that put a complete halt to the fitness program that was working for me.  I've told at least three people this week that they should "stick with what they'll stick with" when it comes to working out.  I should have taken my own advice!  I was doing so well with the walking/running thing. Why rock the boat?!  I just hope it's not as hard to get back on that track when I finally can again.

TODAY'S MENU
Breakfast:  nothing, totally skipped this meal out of frustration

Lunch:  totally cheated!  I had a baked chicken thigh, mashed potatoes with no gravy, green beans, and a salad.  It was lovely!
Dinner:  quinoa stir fry with zucchini, yellow bell pepper, grape tomatoes, and white onion...colorful, huh?

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 210.4
That's a 0.6 lb gain, putting me down 7.4 lbs total.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 11

FIRST THING
Okay, I've written this entry three times now.  I ultimately decided to go with my initial thoughts.

At the risk of wishing my life away, I can't wait until August!!!  I'm so freakin' tired of this diet!  And I'm REALLY starting to feel the effects of NOT working out for 12 days in a row!  And I don't like it one bit!  I worked too hard to get to where I was to just throw it away.  Ugh!  I assure you, I will NEVER do anything like this again.

I woke up this morning and immediately thought about cutting up fruit for breakfast...before I even opened my eyes.  It just ticked me off!  I took my supplements and skipped breakfast entirely.  I'm hungry this morning (Day 12) and I don't even care!  I'll just start on my gallon of water...that seems to be the answer to all important questions...drink water!

I have a Relay for Life meeting at Lakeview today and I'm SERIOUSLY considering cheating on my diet!  I need to go for a run...and I'd like a Diet Sunkist over ice, please!

HOW I FEEL
Yeah, I think I covered that.  Irritated.  Annoyed.  Over it.  Out of shape!  Hungry.

TODAY'S MENU
Google pix.  Fruit, salad, and another meal that took me too long to prepare.

Breakfast:  watermelon

Lunch:  salad with lettuce, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomato, cucumber, and vinaigrette

Dinner: I was supposed to have Quinoa Lintel Pilaf, but I forgot to soak the dry lentils in water overnight and our local grocery store doesn't sell them canned.  So I made the Quinoa Salad instead.  It's mostly quinoa, tomato, and cucumber.

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 209.8
That's a 0.2 lb loss, putting me down 8.0 lbs total.  (CORRECTED)

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 10

FIRST THING
I slept like CRAP last night.  Actually, it would be more accurate to say that I didn't really sleep all that much last night.  I went to bed at 11:30pm.  The last time I looked at the clock, it was 5 'til 3am.  That's when I changed my alarm clock from going off at 5:30 to 7:30.

HOW I FEEL
I fought depression and tears much of yesterday.  And that's exactly how my day started today.  But I've gotten better as the day progressed.  Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to go hang out in a crowd, but at least I stopped crying.  I'm really hoping this is short-lived.

TODAY'S MENU
Fruit for breakfast.  Salad for lunch.  Something new for dinner.  All in all, not too bad.

Breakfast:  an orange and a dozen cherries  (I probably should have eaten more, but I was already late.)

Lunch:  my salad was very red and greed today, with baby greens and spinach, avocado, Roma tomato, red bell pepper, and vinaigrette

Dinner:  sweet potato and roasted red pepper bisque and steamed asparagus with almond slivers

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 210.0
That's a 1.6 lb gain, putting me down 7.8 lbs total.  Wow, starting to look like a yo-yo.  Up 0.6 on Saturday, down 1.2 on Sunday, up 1.6 on Monday.  Hmmm.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 9

FIRST THING
Detox - 6 down, 15 to go!  And only 5 more days left of the Release phase.  Thank God!  Let's see...slept in again...best part of my day.  The sunshine coming through the blinds in my living room was getting on my freakin' nerves.  So I closed them.  Haven't seen the sun since.

HOW I FEEL
I had a rough day today.  I don't know if it's my normal depressive tendencies or if it's the Reset, but I was blue and weepy all day today.  I don't think I laughed once.  I cried several times while watching television.  Anything remotely touching provoked tears.  That's the first time I've cried in quite some time.  This could be a long week.  [sigh]

TODAY'S MENU
Google pix.  Today's menu was a repeat of yesterday's.  So again, it was yummy.

Breakfast: fruit plate of water melon, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, kiwi, and apple
Lunch: microgreen salad of baby greens and spinach, Roma tomatoes, bell pepper, avocado, and vinaigrette
Dinner: pinto beans and brown rice, steamed string beans, and steamed zucchini

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 208.4
That's a 1.2 lb loss, putting me down  9.4 lbs total.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 8

FIRST THING
I finished the Reclaim phase yesterday and started the Release phase today.  Woohoo!  I feel a sense of accomplishment!  I mean really, I've never been a good drinker, yet I've done pretty well at drinking nearly a gallon of water every day.  I've never been much in the kitchen, but I've really enjoyed making my own meals...mostly.  It's been work, but I'm definitely seeing results.  And I know there are lots of positive results that aren't even visible to the eye.

As for today, I had another good day.  Slept in.  Went shopping for fruits and veggies for the first few days' menus.  I guess I didn't get much accomplished outside of grocery shopping and going to church.  It was a nice relaxing day.

HOW I FEEL
Honestly though, I feel great knowing that I've made it through the first phase and only have two weeks to go.  And it's the weekend.  And I enjoyed today's menu.  So yeah, I'm feeling pretty good!

SUPPLEMENTS
So last week I described the supplements that I took during the first week.  There is one change to the supplements during the second week.  I'm still taking the Mineralize (Himalayan pink salt) with all water that I drink.  I'm still taking two Optimize capsules 30 minutes before each meal.  I'm still ingesting 12-15 drops of the Oxygenize.  And I'm still taking the Alkalinize (dark green powder dissolved in 3-6 oz of water) every afternoon.  In addition, I've started taking...
  • Detox - "a detoxifying clay that draws toxic compounds from the gastrointestinal tract, and our proprietary herb blend restores your system to optimal digestive health."  Okay, I've gotten used to the Alkinilize and it doesn't really bother me anymore to take it.  The Detox may be a different story.  It's a little sweeter, so the taste isn't all that bad.  But it has a strange texture, like drinking seed floating in water.  And worse, I have to take it THREE TIMES each day for the next seven days...30 minutes before each meal, along with the Optimize and Oxygenize.  Ugh!  So, the Detox will do exactly what you'd expect it to do...clean out the colon and the rest of the gastrointestinal tract.  But it actually releases toxins in lots of ways.  Everything from additional phlegm, bad breath, and pimples to being emotional.  (I'm not looking forward to that last one!)  Pretty much, my body will find any number of ways to release toxins from the inside.  Lucky for me, this phase is only seven days long.  Detox - 3 down, 18 to go!

TODAY'S MENU
Google pix again.  Breakfast was super easy...and delicious!  Lunch was super easy...also delicious!  Dinner wasn't as easy, but still, pretty delicious!

Breakfast:  fruit plate of water melon, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, kiwi, and apple

Lunch:  microgreen salad of baby greens and spinach, Roma tomatoes, bell pepper, avocado, and vinaigrette

Dinner:  pinto beans and brown rice, steamed string beans, and steamed zucchini

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 209.6
That's a 0.6 lb gain, putting me down 8.2 lbs total.  That's my first gain in over a week.  No worries!

The Ultimate Reset is a total body reset from the inside out.  People tend to drop weight during the Reset, mostly due to holding onto water weight and such.  But more importantly, it'll help me more properly process the better foods that I'll eat now and in the future...making every workout a little more effective than the one before it.  THAT is what I'm looking forward to the most!

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURE
I thought I'd start including a before and after shot of folks who have already completed the Reset.  Nice motivation for me.  And I thought you might like to see them too.  Not mine, of course.  Google again.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 7

FIRST THING
I feel GREAT today.  I know, I've said that before.  And today, it might have more to do with today's lunch date.  I worked from home today because my son was going to be in town and wanted to do lunch.  Even on the Reset, I was NOT going to turn down lunch with my very favorite person on the planet.  He loves Los Bravos, so that's what we did.  So, it was a 'cheat', but I was as good as I could have been.  And I wouldn't give it up for the world!  Had a WONDERFUL time with Jeff!

HOW I FEEL
I slept really well again last night.  A late dinner and being wiped out after work yesterday, ensured that I got to bed early.  And I really slept soundly!  So between that, working from home, enjoying today's menu, and hanging with 'the boy', I really had the best day of my Reset so far!

TODAY'S MENU
Breakfast was pretty much as scheduled.  Lunch was Los Bravos with Jeff.  And because that meal was heavier than the normal, I had my microgreen salad for dinner.  All in all, it was lovely.

Breakfast:  steel cut oats with agave nectar, walnuts, and kiwi

Lunch:  Mexican grilled chicken salad...lettuce, tomato, grilled bell pepper, grilled chicken (which I shouldn't have eaten, but I did), shredded cheese (which I shouldn't have eaten, but I did), onion, and avocado

Dinner:  microgreen salad with lettuce, green pepper, tomato, mushroom, carrot, and vinaigrette

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 209.0
That's another 0.4 lb loss, putting me down 8.8 lbs total.

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 6

FIRST THING
Okay, again, I wish I would have done this last night.  It just seems so wrong to take about 'today' when it was actually 'yesterday'.  I'll try to do better in the future...the future being TODAY!

HOW I FEEL
Once again, I felt really great most of the day.  I got held up at the office for awhile at the end of the day, which put my dinner more than an hour later than I'd initially planned.  Talk about running out of steam!  By the time I got home, I felt light-headed and actually struggled getting up the stairs to my apartment while carrying my laptop and purse.  I knew I just needed food, so I immediately started making dinner.  But due to being so darn wiped out, I didn't fix the meal that I was planning.  Still, I felt MUCH better afterwards!

TODAY'S MENU
Google pix...surprise!  Breakfast was yummy!  I left home without my lunch.  Lucky for me, we had a caterer in our building today and she has a salad bar.  And as I mentioned above, I adjusted dinner.  Still, all in all, the meals were great!

Breakfast:  steel cut oats, agave nectar, walnuts, and kiwi (even though the picture shows green apple)

Lunch:  lettuce, cucumber, mushrooms, tomato, yellow bell pepper, boiled egg, carrots, onion, and vinaigrette

THIS is what I was supposed to have for dinner...root medley of yam, carrot, beet, and onion - baked.

Dinner:  I actually had a baked yam...
...and watermelon chunks.

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 209.4
That's another 2.2 lb loss, putting me down 8.4 lbs total.  I know...unbelievable!

Beachbody Ultimate Reset, Day 5

FIRST THING
I should have typed this up at the end of Wednesday.  But I thought I was tired and went to bed by 10pm (after being out until 9:30).  I was wrong apparently because I laid in my bed just waiting to fall asleep for nearly two hours.  I wasn't frustrated that I couldn't fall asleep necessarily.  But I kept thinking, "should I just get up and be productive or should I keep lying here waiting to fall asleep?"

HOW I FEEL
I felt GREAT all day long!  After not getting all my water in on Tuesday, I vowed to do that on Wednesday.  Mission accomplished!  14 cups of water, all consumed by 8pm.  AND it didn't feel like a chore.

Honestly... I think my skin looks better.  I think my hair feels thicker.  My sense of smell is heightened.  I feel more relaxed than I normally am.  I have more energy.  My mood is better.  I just have this overall really good feeling.  And the fact that I'm dropping weight and my clothes are fitting better is an added bonus!

THE PHASES
Right now I'm in Phase 1.  It's the first week of the Ultimate Reset.  It's called Reclaim.  The second Phase is called Release.  The third phase is called Restore.  Here's some information about each of the phases that I pulled directly from the Ultimately Reset website.
  • RECLAIM - During these first seven days you'll begin to alter your diet, slowly removing foods like red meat and dairy that put stress on your digestive system and tilt your body toward an acidic state. You'll also be introduced to four of the six supplements that make up the Ultimate Reset™ protocol—Alkalinize, Oxygenize, Mineralize, and Optimize.  You'll rehydrate your body (most of us are living in a slightly dehydrated state) and reactivate sluggish cell function, along with shifting your body's pH (level of acidity) back toward a healthier, alkaline state, and away from any excess acidity that can weaken your body's functions.  Once your body has been primed, balanced, and strengthened on a cellular level, it will be primed to continue the process of releasing accumulated toxins.
  • RELEASE - In Week Two, you'll continue to refine your diet. You'll have stopped eating animal proteins and dairy and you'll be eating vegetarian meals.  You'll also be adding the next element in the Beachbody Ultimate Reset™ protocol: Detox. This supplement will help restore optimum health to your entire gastrointestinal tract, while detoxifying your body through improved bowel movements.  Although the Ultimate Reset is gentle, you may find you're releasing toxic substances from more than just your digestive tract. Some people experience skin breakouts, while others find themselves releasing toxic emotions or dropping negative habits they've been holding on to. After the freeing experience of a strong release phase, you'll now be ready to restore your body to ultimate health.
  • RESTORE - Hopefully, your first two weeks on the Beachbody Ultimate Reset have already had profoundly positive effects on your body. You've stepped out of your comfort zone in learning to think about food in a new way, eating and shopping for ingredients you may never have heard of before, and introduced new supplements into your daily regime.  During this final phase, you'll adjust your diet once again. You'll be cutting back further on grains and consuming mainly fruits and vegetables—for fiber and further alkalinization, and to provide your body with pure, whole foods that are of high nutritional value and are easily absorbed. Right now, that may sound tough . . . but once you've tuned up your body, the food you do eat will satisfy you more (you'll find that fruit literally tastes like candy to you!)  You'll also be introduced to your final supplement— called Revitalize—during this phase, which will restore healthy bacteria to your freshly scrubbed digestive tract (this is very important, and often neglected in cleanse programs).

TODAY'S MENU
Google pix again!  I'm getting a bit lazy for breakfast and relying on the Shakeology.  Thankfully it's a healthy (and allowed) alternative this week.  Not so much next week!  Actually, perhaps I'm getting lazy about the whole diet.  I'm eating things that are allowed, but I'm finding myself sticking with what I know and enjoy.  I was explaining it to a friend of mine...I find more pleasure and benefit in making and enjoying a meal that I learned how to make last night instead of figuring out how to make another new meal that I may or may not like.  And it doesn't seem to be hurting my overall results, so I'm not about to start beating myself up for it.  The fact is, I can totally see these meals being part of every week I eat for the rest of my life...more so than a lentil lime salad or anything with tempeh or seaweed as a primary ingredient.  I'm just sayin'...

Breakfast:  Tropical Strawberry Shakeology with frozen strawberries

Lunch:  microgreen salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, yellow bell pepper, avocado, and vinaigrette

Dinner:  stir fry veggies (mostly zucchini, onion, green bell pepper, and tomato) with quinoa

WEIGHT
This morning's weigh-in: 211.6
No change from yesterday.  Probably due to being so far under on my water on Tuesday and forgetting my Alkalinize.
